13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 1 John 4:13-17

With God love is more than information. Love is more than the rush of euphoria at the start of a new relationship. Love is God – rather God is love. Sometimes God is a good, caring and love Father who comforts, challenges, reassures, and holds God’s children accountable. Sometimes God’s love is a jealous love yearning to draw those who have wandered after other loves back to Godself. Sometimes God is the traveling companion sharing the road of life and telling the tales of what God has seen and known to be true. And sometimes God is the bridegroom seeking to lavish intimate affections on God’s bride.

Abiding in God’s love means living in God’s love and experiencing the comforts, challenges, jealousies, and tender intimacies of God. Only then will we know God both in our heads, and in our hearts. When we truly know God is is no trouble to tell others or confess jesus Christ as the Son of God. It is much the same as saying, “This is my Daddy.” “This is my lover.” ” This is my friend.” “This is my spouse.” Who is this? This is my God.

In His Peace,
Richard
